About Us
Mid Island Velo Association is a volunteer driven non-profit organization committed to building a sense of community through friendly group road and gravel cycling activities in the Nanaimo region.
The year starts in February with regular Saturday gravel rides. By mid April, weekly road riding events are added to complement our Saturday gravel program: social group rides on Sunday mornings, development rides Tuesday evenings, as well as Strava based challenges for some friendly competition.
Our members see cycling as a social activity that has the benefit of fitness and for some: competition and excellence. So, take a look at our calendar page and see what appeals to you. Then head over to our registration page to get signed up and come join us!
For new riders considering joining our group rides, you should be able to maintain a solo road riding speed of 20km/h moving average over moderately hilly terrain. We recommend that new riders start with a Tuesday night development ride as that is a great place to gain skills and confidence riding in a group. If you’re not sure you’re ready to join yet, you are welcome to join us for up to 2 rides before becoming a member with signed waivers. Please print, sign, and bring to the ride, or email to us ahead of time at miva.board@gmail.com.
