MIVA Time Trial Course - Poll

MIVA Time Trial Course Question: Which course would you prefer is used for the 2013 season?

Background: The original course started at the intersection of White Rapids Road/Nanaimo River Road and headed west, and was used from 2008 (or earlier?) through last season. The temporary course for the past 6 races has been starting about 5km further west along Nanaimo River Road due to construction, slated to be completed in about 2 weeks. MIVA would appreciate your feedback and comments, thx!

MIVA ARBUTUS MEADOWS CRITERIUM 20130604

Miva Tuesday Criterium 130604

Arbutus Meadows Equestrian Centre, Nanaoose

Organised by Mid Island Velo Association

50 laps points criterium with sprints every 5 laps.

Top three get 5, 3, 2 points. Double on 15th. And final lap.

All categories started together. The top twelve riders stayed together through the first of 10 sprints, which was won by Ian Smith, from Menno Jongsma with Mark Wieler third . These twelve stayed intact through the second prime, won by Menno, with Rob Russell second and Jessica Reynolds, (lapped) third. Over the next fifteen laps, the weaker riders in the bunch were shed one by one until there were just four left: Ian, Menno, Rob and Ray, with Chris Cameron just ten seconds back in fifth.Soon afterwards, Rob Russell retired leaving thee lead trio taking time and laps out of most of the rest of the field Chris soldiered on, losing a little each lap but steadily catching the stragglers. The sixthe sprint at thirty laps was won by the classy Mr. Smith, with Ray in second and Nick Kupiak (lapped) taking third, the two points eventually giving him third place overall in front of the other riders at two laps down. Ian gave the ninth sprint to Ray and then easily left him to finish alone with over fifty points total and having completed the race in 47' 41” with Ray seventeen seconds down and Chris Cameron taking third a lap down.

MIVA 20k TT - May 30, 2013

Rain threatened Nanaimo all day, with an all out downpour in some areas even, but the TT course held if off for the entire race thankfully.  Normally heavy rains have the numbers quite low, but this week we still had 10 racers show up to race the 20k!  In the past, there would be 1-2 people show up.

Peter giving out some last minute sage-like advice

Reagan Lovig was smoking fast tonight, fresh off a 14th overall finish at the Shawnigan Triathlon just 5 days prior, winning the overall TT with an average speed of 36.5km/hr on the hilly course.  Single Speeder Patrick Burnham was flying tonight shaving a full minute+ off his 20k time just 3 weeks ago.  Also improving on their previous 20k best were Mike Gill (over a minute off!), Jason Hare, and Jennifer Gordon.  Well done!

Special kudos to the dedicated young Aiden Hare.  After hitting the 10k turnaround in 24 minutes, he was on pace to break his previous best time until a mechanical left him with greasy hands and a few extra minutes.  Good on him for getting it fixed and hammering across the line with a smile on his face still!
