MIVA STAGE RACE

The BCMCA stage race, organised by the Mid Island Velo Association, is a development from past May weekend events, MIVA's predecessor, OBB Wheelers has put on for the last three years and will show the same high level of organisation. This is an opportunity for MIVA to show the cycling fraternity what we are capable of doing so MIVA members please consider volunteering to help the club with this event. Gabriola residents are doing most of the volunteering on their island but the club will need help with the Sunday morning time trial on Nanaimo River Road and the Sunday afternoon criterium on our popular Boxwood circuit.

If you can help, please email pakamac@gmail.com ASAP so we can set up a roster.

More information on the event here

RYDER HESJEDAL'S TOUR DE VICTORIA
Ryder Hesjedal, one of the best Canadian professional riders, is heading up a Victoria area recreational ride on May 28th. The 140km starts at 7 a.m. and Ryder Hesjedal's leading it out. The 90km will start at 8 a.m. For anyone who wishes to take part in the ride,  in registration is on-line here. There's also a Community Ride at 8:30 a.m. . Thanks to Mike Woodward for spotting incorrect info.
SATURDAY CLUB RIDE

Only two people showed up for this Saturday's club ride. Perhaps the timing, meeting place, or

method of communicating MIVA activities needs modifying. If anyone has suggestions as to how to make these rides more appealing, please email Peter at pakamac@gmail.com.

As one of the participants said: the club ride is probably the most enjoyable form of cycling. Racing and other competitive riding is great in its own way but the club ride gives more satisfaction and the chance to socialise with other cyclists.

WEEKEND CLUB RIDES

There are still inquiries about regular club rides. MIVA has a ride meeting at Java Expressions at Northfield and Bowen, 9am on Saturdays and heading south towards Chemainus. The club is still looking for regular runs leader(s) to head up these rides. The job would be to take into account the varying abilities , fitness level, time available of participants and to keep the group together or suggest extra loop(s) for the fit, feisty and faster riders.

FIFTY AND COUNTING ...!

MIVA now has fifty members! not bad for a little club that only started this year. If all our members show up for a time trial, we will need a second time keeper so I'm willing to train anyone who is interested in the role. If all the members show up for a criterium, I will need someone with younger eyes to sort out a bunch finish!
