TOUR DE FRANCE CONTEST

Canadian Cyclist has a great virtual TDF competition here. However, for those of you who don't have the time to work out all the necessary inputs, MIVA is running a simpler contest. Name the top five finishers in this year's Tour de France in any order and post your selection as a comment to this post. The winning entry will receive a set of MIVA jersey and bib shorts plus free entry to every MIVA event for the balance of the current season. In the event of a tie, the entry naming more placed riders in the correct order will be deemed the winning one. If there is more than one perfect entry, both will receive the prize.

Entries close after the completion of the first stage. Any rider(s) who abandon or are disqualified, for whatever reason, will be removed from your list.

MIVA CRITERIUMS GET MORE POPULAR

The weekly, Tuesday evening  MIVA criteriums are getting more popular. These great races on a very safe and challenging 1.1km circuit in Nanaimo started off this Spring with only half a dozen or so riders but over the last couple of weeks there have been up to 20 participants. Most of the riders are men, but there is  one regular youth rider, Brodie Hay who would love to see some more young competitors. Comox VCC did bring down a couple of juniors last week but there are local MTB kids who would do well in the races.

A  few women come out to race but their attendance is somewhat sporadic. If  6 girls come out at a time there will be a separate race just for them plus a pre-race clinic to go over skills.  Any woman who brings a second to race will get free entry for both riders.

TWO GOOD BIKES FOR SALE

We recently received the following letter from Joan Neil. Normally advertisements for cycling stuff go in the classified section but it's appropriate to post this request on the news page. Editor

I wonder if you would give me some help in referring some of your biking friends to help me sell my husband’s bikes?

I met some of your biking friends today.  My husband used to be a very avid biker. He has ridden the route of the Tour de France.  Ron is now very ill with dementia and can no longer use his bikes.

I was told you know a lot of cyclists in the Nanaimo area and may be able to spread the word about two of my husbands bikes.

He has a 2003 Giant TCR carbon fibre road bike, medium frame, Shimano Ultegra with Deore X5 derailleur to accommodate 32/11 cluster for hill climbing.  Chain rings 53/38 – Fitted with fenders SPD pedals.  This was his second carbon fibre bike and he has not ridden for over two years because of his condition.  It has been kept indoors.  He only rode it part of the time because he had an identical bike he used for the summer.  He bought it new at White Rock cycles.  I am asking $1,150., he paid over $4,100.

The other bike he used part time also was his mountain bike.  He mostly rode it in Stanley Park when we lived over there.  It was made by Cove Cycles in Deep Cove. It has 26” wheels and is medium size.  It also has been kept inside and has hardly been ridden for 3 ½ years as the group he rode with over here usually rode their road bikes.  I am asking $650.  I have a few jerseys and assorted gear as well.  Both of the bikes are in excellent condition. I would really appreciate your response.  If I am asking too much of you please let me know.

Thank you,  Joan Neil
