Until 1934, recumbent bikes were legal in bike races and most often, won the events in
which they were entered by a large margin. Here is a history of these interesting machines and an account of the quandary in which the UCI found itself when asked to make a call on the legality of the bikes.
MIVA AWARDS NIGHT
The Mid Island Velo Association first annual awards night is at the Longwood Brew Pub at 6.30pm on November 11th. on Turner Avenue in Nanaimo. This is where all our winners for 2011 will be honoured and the assembled multitude will mill around and trade war stories about the club races and recreational? rides.
Although this is a club event, all local cyclists are invited, so if any of our readers wish to attend, they will be made most welcome.
After the last of the Cross on the Rock events next week, MIVA is considering organising one or two weekend cyclo-crosses on the Beban park course used for the evening clinics. The format will be a 25 minute event going clockwise on the circuit, then, after a ten minute interval, a second 25 minute event going counter clockwise. The winner in each category will be the rider with the lowest total points, one point being given for first, two for second and so on. Please post in the comments section if you are interested in this proposal.
MIVA will soon have all its sponsors on board for 2012 and the clothing will be ordered soon afterwards. The club needs to know how many jerseys, bibs, jackets, etc. to order so all members need to get their own orders in as soon as possible. Click on the "clothing orders" to the right, download and fill in the form and mail to the club address with payment (money order or cheque made out to MIVA). Orders may also be given to any of the club executive or to Oak Bay Bikes (Nanaimo) or Frontrunners.
Revised deadline is November 30th.
