FINAL SERIES EVENT - DUOMONT WIEGLES HILL CLIMB The final even in the OBB Wheelers 2010 time trial series is next week's Doumont - Wiegles hill climb. It is significantly different than the previous hill climbs. It is much longer, at 5.6 kilometers, and the first 3km are fast and undulating. For those of you who have not ridden this course in the past, it will be fully marked by the weekend so that you can pre-ride it and decide where your maximum effort is best used.

The Nanaimo Hill climb Championship on Saturday, October 9th. will be on the same course so next week's event is a golden opportunity to see where you can gain some time on your competition. Present record for the climb is held by Frontrunners' Stefan Jacobsen at 12'27"

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE FUNDS YOU RAISE GOES AS "CAMPAIGN EXPENSES"? Many of us participate in charity rides for various causes, mainly for cancer research. We were concerned that, in some of these campaigns, the majority of the money raised goes to cover the expense of running the campaign. One of the most popular of these fund raisers is the Ride to Conquer Cancer, the BC version being the annual Vancouver to Seattle ride in June.
We did some research on this particular campaign and found that well over half of the money raised by sponsorship of participants goes to cancer research. This is much better than numerous other campaigns where, in one case, the organisation running the campaign took 92% of the funds, with only 8% going to the cause.
Details of the funds distribution for the Ontario Ride to Conquer Cancer are as follows:
After expenses, $9.3 million has been directed to the highest priority cancer research initiatives at. The Princess Margaret. The return to Foundation of over 64% far exceeds what is considered by the industry as an acceptable return for events of this magnitude. To attract a large number of registrations and donations and run an excellent and safe event requires significant investment in marketing and logistics.
As a matter of interest, those who took part in the very successful Nanaimo to Victoria ride in August will be pleased to learn that, because the ride piggybacked on the Tour de Rock, an even larger percentage of funds generated will go to cancer research, so make sure that you take part in this ride next year.
