CLUB NAME AND JERSEY COMPETITIONS So far, we have had only 5 entries for the club name and one, yes one for the jersey design! Put on your thinking caps and submit your ideas for both.

Remember, the contests end on December 31st. but there's lots to do at Christmas, so put aside some time to help our steering committee with your ideas. Free 2011 membership for the originator of the selected club name and free club jersey and shorts for the creator of the chosen design. Here are some existing jersey designs to get you going

AXEL MERCKX DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME As our new club evolves, one of our priorities will be getting kids into road cycling. Hopefully we can tap into and become part of the Axel Merckx Youth Programme. Details here

NEW CLUB NAME

Re. the contest for the new club name (see previous posts): a couple of suggestions are: Vancouver Island Velo Association VIVA, and Mid Island Velo Association MIVA.   When submitting your own entries, remember, the name should reflect the fact that the club will not be Nanaimo-specific. It should also produce a good acronym that is instantly recognisable and which looks great on the clothing. Keep those entries coming in!

OLYMPIAN CLARA HUGHES TO RETURN TO CYCLING Speed Skating star Clara Hughes, who originally competed for Canada in World Championship and Olympic road and track cycling, has voiced her intention to return to track cycling and try out for the  Canadian cycling team for the 2012 Olympics in London.
