LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE COBBLESTONE CLASSIC ON JUNE 17TH.

A number of organisations have been asked to provide volunteers for this event. However. The Nanaimo Cobblestone Classic is MIVA's showcase race of the year. The club have over 50 members to date and if our 2011 members all rejoin, we will have over 80! This should give the club it's primary source of volunteers. However, last season, despite constant requests and the opportunity to get series points, it was s-o-o-o-o hard to get anyone to help. The bell and lap board in the criteriums were more often than not operated by Al Henderson who was not even a member, and most of the time, there were no marshals on the turns. Several stalwarts including John Hannon, Mike Woodworth, Iain and Brody Hay, Dave Kenny and a few others did far more than their share but the majority of members had any number of excuses.

This year, any criterium where there are not at least three marshals on the critical turns will not start. So step up to the plate, to borrow a cliche from another sport, and do your bit to make MIVA really rock.

It would be a great shame if most of the volunteers for the Cobblestone Classic came from elsewhere.

This event is the showcase for MIVA and there is an opportunity to actually work with the officiating crew. The organiser is looking for: 1. a driver for the Camaro convertible pace car, 2. a motorcyclist who could carry an official as pillion passenger, 3. Someone to look after the lap board and bell, 4. A pits official.

MIVA MONDAY EVENING CLUB RIDES

Last week was really successful! More than a dozen riders came out on the ride from the Aquatic Centre which was led by Janna Gillick and Colleen Wtorek. Next Monday's ride starts at 6pm from Oak Bay Bikes. If you are not sure about group riding and are leery of rides that leave you grovelling in the gutter, then this is the ride for you. Be on time as the ride leaves promptly. By the way, like all MIVA activities, it goes rain or shine so if the weather is poor, bring along wet weather wear.
