Party might be an overstatement, but for anyone who chooses to follow me home (on their bike!) after the Departure Bay hill climb event on Thursday - there might be beverages on our deck that evening. Yay hill climbing. (We're ~1km from the start of the climb) -Janna
Summer is fading, so I think we need to start our rides a little earlier. This week, it's a 6pm start from NAC.
Two of the MIVA riders did well this week. First, at the Organic Athlete Omnium at the Juan de Fuca velodrome in Victoria, Cadet rider Brodie Hay came third overall in the C category. He completed the two day event by winning the scratch race. At the BC Masters CA Cowichan Lake Road Race on Saturday, Ian Smith won his category and came second overall to winner Derek Tripp.
Congratulations to both.
Any MIVA members who do well in any of the provincial events, please contact the editor with story and photos. The membership likes to read about members' successes.

MIVA 20km ttt 120819 Nanaimo River Road
A small turnout for the last of the team time trials - only four teams. However, the results were pretty close. BCMCA reps. Dave Steen and Paul Gowland won, beating second place Team of Matt Allardyce and Adam McConnell by just seventeen seconds and Lorrie Bailtham & Patrick Burnham on his fixie by twenty-one seconds. Fourth placed Russ Berg and daughter Mykelti were less than two minutes down, doing a very7 creditable 35' 27". It should be noted that Matt dropped a not-so-well Paul after five kilometers and finished alone in 31' 52" . All teams need to work on turnarounds and pacing for next season..
Thanks to Katy Condon for holding and equipment packing. Ride well in the Penticton Triathlon, Katy.
Next Thursday is the first of the club hill climbs - a 3km drag up Departure Bay Road and Uplands Road, to finish on Hillside Road. Registration opens at 6.30pm at Departure Bay Elementary School.
