Our Nanaimo cyclo-cross participants in the world championship cyclo-cross events acquitted themselves very well. In the womens' 35-39 category, Janna Gillick (MIVA) finished a very creditable 7th., ahead of a number of the "name" riders. The men's 45-49 event saw Normon Thibault (Frontrunners) almost breaking the top ten, finishing eleventh. in a large field of over eighty starters. Derek Steel, riding in the 70-74 race, finished fourth, a remarkable placing since the top three all had spare bikes ready in the messy conditions whereas Derek was handicapped by having t o keep his muddy machine throughout the race. In the elite women's event Wendy Simm (Kona) was involved in a bad crash on the first lap but worked her way back to finish 22nd. Full results and photos here.

The Cedar 12 K is coming up on Sunday, February 10th and it could use three or more riders to go back and forth along the runners and keep them to the side of the road. It would be a good chance for MIVA to show its colours on the course. The race HQ is North Cedar Intermediate School on Gould Rd. and riders would be required from 10.30am to around 12pm. max. Please let me know if you are able to help.
