MIVA BOXWOOD CRITERIUM 130806

MIVA Boxwood Criterium 130806

42 lap criterium w. 5 primes

For most of the race tonight, the pack stayed together, although there were numerous attempts to get a break going. Justin Mark from Speed Cycles was very active and took three of the intermediate primes but just couldn't get away. After challenging Justin for the first prime, Chris Cameron stayed quietly in the bunch. Other strong riders including Ian Smith, Ray Wagner, Paul Thompson and Mike Sevcov also were involved in break attempts but to no avail. With twelve laps left, Nick Kupiak and Paul Thompson opened up a six second gap but again failed to get away and the bunch was back together for the fourth prime which was won by Ian Smith. With eight laps left, Ray Wagner made yet another break attempt and, seeing the danger, Nick bridged and the duo stayed up to ten seconds up for the next four laps, Ray taking the final prime in the process. However, the pack finally came to life and managed to pull the two escapees back with two laps remaining The last lap was the fastest, being covered in 1' 34" but Kupiak made one final effort and, showing his class, finished five seconds ahead of Chris Cameron who took the sprint for second, ahead of Ian Smith, Mike Sevcov and Justin Mark.

In the youth event, Aiden Hare and older sister Abigail rode together until a lap from the end when Abigail puked away from her brother to win by sixteen seconds..

Thanks to Jason Hare, Paul Callow, Mark Wieler for marshalling and to Iain and Brodie Hay for course set up and take down.

The remaining 2013 criteriums will all be held on the Boxwood circuit.
