Spring Challenge 50/100k - April 8 - Sign up!

MIVA 2017 kicks off with our Spring Challenge 50/100k on April 8. Like last year, we will start and end at White Sails brewery (a sponsor). There will be a social afterwards with food and swag. This is a great opportunity to come out and test your legs or ride into shape. Also a large part of this event is the opportunity to catch up with each other after the ride. We look forward to having lots out for this event and to kick off the season with a fun ride and social outing. Sign in that morning will start at 7:30 for those who want to ride 100k and be back in time for food. A group will leave WS at 8:00 and do 100k. For 50k, calculate your time and sign in when you like - a group will leave at 9:30. A $10 entry will help cover food and swag.

Sign up through webscorer.

MIVA Kit is here!

The great looking new kit is here! Jakroo suprised us and delivered it early. I will be at White Sails Brewery on Friday from 5-7pm (or maybe longer) so come and get it if you ordered something.Note - All the gear was shipped to one address, it is not shipping to your house as their email may have lead you to believe. Again, the store is still open so you can still order and they will deliver every two weeks I believe - check my most recent newsletter for details. Cheers Mike

Breakfast for Learning

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Anyone who's been rushed for time and skipped out on a full meal rather than be late to the group ride can attest to that. The staff at the Nanaimo Superstore have teamed up with a local elementary school to help fund/supply their breakfast program.  Making sure that all their students have a balanced breakfast to start their day off right.

For one of our fundraising events for this program, the store manager Greg Welgan has committed to ride a spin bike at the front of the store Wednesday March 15th for ten minutes for every hundred dollars we raise.

Matt and Jacqui from the Swethaus are letting us borrow two of their spin bikes so I can ride along and keep him motivated.  As it stands right now we've raised enough to give him an hour on the bike.

I'm throwing out the members if anyone is interested in donating to this cause to help out a local school and add some time to the clock for Greg email me at palleus@hotmail.com

As well if anyone is free wednesday morning at Nine am and wants to come set your trainer or rollers and help me keep him motivated fire me an email and we'll make sure we've got space for you.

For my part in addition to riding with him on Wednesday I also promised that if any of the other stores on the island wanted to donate money to make him sweat I'd ride out to collect.(I didn't know winter was going to last forever)  So Monday I'm riding to Campbell River and Tuesday I'm riding to Victoria.  If anyones free and wants to put in some miles I'd love the company.  Send me a message palleus@hotmail.com

Cheers.

MIVA Gear Swap #1 was a great event!!

Lots of stuff was sold and fun was had at the first annual MIVA gear swap. It was a good way to get together and talk bikes, gear, or whatever. We are already looking a larger location for next year and ways to get more buyers. If you have any ideas send them to miva.gear@shaw.ca.

Thanks Jana for a well organized event and Lee for hosting!
