Into the thick of it!

With the Spring Challenge season opener done we’re now looking forward to our first full week of 2019. Here’s what’s going on:

Spring Challenge

The 50k group before the Spring Challenge looking super bright

Congratulations to everyone that made it out for the Spring Challenge yesterday despite the less than promising looking weather. We even had a handful of new members! In the end, I’ve no doubt that the riders had a great time and were rewarded for their efforts with great hospitality from White Sails Brewing.

Group rides starting Monday

Our House Of Kiyo Monday Night Development Rides start on Monday. Remember this year we’re starting half an hour later at 6:30 pm. Our meeting point remains the same in the parking lot of the Nanaimo Ice Center. I’m looking forward to riding with people I haven’t seen since last August!

Criterium Clinic and the first Aquarius Marine Crit - Tuesday - Volunteers Needed!

On Tuesday we’re learning how to ride in a criterium and then putting it in to practice with our first competitive event of the year. For those of us who’ve never ridden a crit before, the clinic is essential for building skills and learning how to stay safe in a close-quarters peleton. We’re also looking for 4-7 volunteers to help; remember volunteers get entered for draw prizes at our AGM. Sign up here if you are available to help out. We’re starting at 6 pm to allow time for the clinic before the crit. Meet near the Longwood Brewery on Boxwood Road.

Time Trial Clinic and Rock City Cycles Time Trail - Thursday

We’ve also got a clinic before our first time trial on Thursday. Again we’re starting early at 6 pm to allow time for the clinic. Sign up is now open, and closes at 4:30 pm on Thursday to allow for time to prepare the start list. Entry is $5, and free for Seasons Pass holders. Meet on Nanaimo River Road here.

Seasons Pass

Our first competitive events this week give me the chance to remind everyone about the Seasons Pass. The Seasons Pass is $50 and will cover entry to every critierium, time trial, and hill climb for the whole year. These events are $5 each so if you are planning on participating in 10 or more of these events the Seasons Pass is the way to go. Follow this link to take advantage of this offer:

Under 15s race free!

Remember MIVA members under the age of 15 can ride our crits, hill climbs, and time trails for free!
