MIVA BOXWOOD TUESDAY CRITERIUM

Not much to report on this one. Mark Wieler took the first prime but totally emptied his energy bucket doing so and was promptly dropped. For most of the race, the packed stayed more or less together. Early breaks by Sean Lunny and Shepherd Stewart came to naught. But a solo effort by Ray Wagner, who stayed away for 8 laps, taking the second prime in the process, almost worked. However, by the bell for the third prime, the pack was together again and Ian Smith edged Paul Thompson to take the flag. The fourth prime was only 2 laps later so Ian kept up the effort and took that one as well. Immediately after this last intermediate sprint, Smith and Mike Sevcov drifted off the front but were brought back within a lap. With just 2 laps to go, OBB's Sean Lunny made a last ditch attempt to go it alone and for a moment, it looked as if he might stay away from the chasing bunchWith one lap to go, Lunny was still about 8 seconds clear but at the line, Ian Smith had exploded from the pack and beat Lunny by just 3 seconds with Paul Thompson winning the bunch sprint a further 2 seconds back.
