TIME TRIAL TURN CLINIC

Tonight's time trial turn clinic was a great success. Although only four people managed to make it out to Nanaimo River Road , they benefitted a great deal from Conductor Don Gillmore's explanation of the mechanics of turning  and his excellent demonstration of how to turn really fast. Don showed how to initiate a turn by momentarily steering in the opposite direction to get the bike to lean the right way and then steering into the turn as the bike began to lean. He also stressed the importance of killing excess speed by freewheeling for a hundred meters or so immediately before the turn and then braking moderately so as to maintain enough speed so that less acceleration is required coming out of the turn. Participants were: Julie Langelo, Colleen Wtorek, Patrick Burnham and Mike Woodworth.  After the clinic, Don and three of the participants rode a 14 kilometer time trial with three dead turns to experience the improvement in turning technique. RESULTS

1. Don Gillmore              20'21" (establishes course record

2. Patrick Burnham      26'04"

3. Julie Langelo             27'21"

4.Mike Woodworth      17'05" (7km)
