MIVA 2025 Clothing Store Sneak Peek. Opens April 9th - April 30th

Before the MIVA clothing store opens April 9th we would like to give you the chance to review some of the items that will be available. Further details about each item can be found on the Jakroo site (Custom Products / Road Bike). There will be more items than shown here, hopefully this sample will peak your interest.

We have tweaked some of last years designs plus we have added to the collection a new gilet, packsack, socks and a proper cycling cap.

Fondo

Two jersey styles will be available: the race fitting Nova Pro and the more relaxed Fondo jersey. It would be advisable to get sizing advice from last year’s costumers. The MTB style shirt Flow SS will also be available.

Mistral

Two light wind/rain resistance jackets are available. The differences between the Barrier Pro and Mistral are subtle so I would recommend checking the Jakroo clothing site.

Ventura

If you plan on spending long 5+ hours in the saddle the Ventura cargo bib would be recommended. Thicker padding and cargo thigh pockets will be appreciated on those more adventurous rides. The Solar Pro bib is the competitive option wth less frills. The Luxe cycling shorts are also available.

The Epic gilet is new for 2025. Dual back pockets, breathable wind resistant fabric and a 2 way zipper. This should be a popular addition.

We have also added the Century cycling cap and small Scout backpack that easily fits into a jersey pocket.

2025 Strava Challenges

Another year and a fresh start to Strava Challenges. After some discussion we are putting up the same challenges as last year, maybe next year we will make some adjustments or if members rise up with pitchforks and demand change we will tweak the list. The segments are an interesting collection of popular bike routes, some flat (TTish) and others requiring strong climbing strength. Despite the remarkable participation in 2024, only a handful of club members managed to finish all the challenges.

In the table below please note the start of the two week interval when the challenge is active, the closing date and the 2024 average time of MIVA members for this challenge. The average gives a majority of the club members a meaningful reference. In 2024 at least one segment KOM was set, impressive. Note there is a 2 week makeup period starting August 4th when all the challenges will be open.

At the end of the season when all the efforts have been tallied, there will be prizes for the top three women and top three men. For us mortals who have not made it to the podium, and have completed at least 3 challenges, you will be selected for one of 4 draws weighted by the number of segments completed. So get out there and ride.

The MIVA Store is Now Open with New Designs

The MIVA design team has been busy over the last many months imagining up a MIVA fashion line that we would all be proud to wear. The challenge was to create kit that is fast, fashionable and more importantly for some of us, slenderizing. I think they have done it with verve. For the MIVA 2024 collection we have 14 items to choose from. The store can be found here: Jakroo_MIVA_Store

How things are priced is a bit novel. The "team price" is the most you will pay, but the final price is not known till the store closes. The final price for an item is discounted based on the number of units of that item sold before the store closes. Your payment card will be charged this final discounted value. Further information can be found when you visit the team store. You will have to create a Jakroo account, if you don’t currently have one, and find the MIVA store by selecting “TEAM STORES” in the banner, and type “MIVA 2024” in the “Search for a store” entry.

The store closes April 1, 11:59pm, so you have two weeks to browse and shop. Coal City Cycles has graciously allowed us to ship all the orders to their store. Your purchases should be available after April 15th to be picked up at your convenience.

2024 Season Starts Now!

MIVA is here to rescue you from living vicariously through the countless streaming services you have subscribed to over the winter months. Time to get off the couch or escape your "pain cave" and experience the sun, fresh air and the open road.

The 2024 MIVA cycling season begins this weekend, Feb 17th, with the Coal City Cycles Gravel Ride. It might seem a bit ambitious to start this early in the year, but gravel riders are a durable bunch typically undeterred by a little moisture and the prospect of scraping off a "dusting" of mud. Please see the club calendar or "Upcoming Events" on the MIVA home page for details.

The group road riding season starts gently on April 7th with the weekly Sunday Social rides. On the following weekend, April 14th, the Sunday Social ride will be this year’s Spring Challenge, which will bring your legs completely out of hibernation. We have three "Challenges" scheduled this year.

Tuesday April 16th starts the popular weekly Development Rides, where you can learn and practice group riding skills.

After a hiatus for a couple of years, Strava Challenges are back on the menu, starting April 4th. Details still to be announced.

The 2024 MIVA calendar on the MIVA website is full!. There may be adjustments over time so please check the MIVA website for changes or cancellations near to events. Also, the club has been using Discord for informal chit chat amongst our members and with the cycling community at large. On the MIVA Discord site one can find buy-and-sell, community events and informal non-club rides.

MIVA Survey Wants You!

The 2023 MIVA calendar is getting a little thin with only the Sunday Social rides left and they dry up at the end of the month. Soon planning for 2024 will start, but before we begin wrangling out the 2024 calendar it would be prudent to find out what the MIVA members expect of their club. Thus, we have put together a slick survey for you to fill out. It's not arduous, almost fun, as we know you would rather be out riding or more likely thrashing on a smart trainer yearning for the return of summer.

The anonymous survey is here
