MIVA 2 UP TEAM TIME TRIAL 120510

This was the club's first team time trial of the season. Seven two person teams contested the Nanaimo River Road 15km course and, for some, it was a real learning experience. Several duos used the uphill out section to get used to each others riding style, cadence, and change over technique and all teams rode a very fast second half.

Winning by a comfortable margin, Ian Smith and Charles Hamer must have been inspired by the new club skin suits they both purchased at registration and were a fast moving advertisement for the gorgeous new club kit.

Second fastest time was turned in by Cheryl Morch and Lorrie Bailtham but they were later penalised two minutes as they had had help from a third, unregistered rider for much of the way. This moved the next four teams up a notch, moving Bryan Rehill and Sue Handel (great to see her back after an absence of two years).

VIDEO FINISH MODIFIES BOXWOOD CRIT RESULTS!

After examining a video of last night's Boxwood Criterium finish, taken with a Contourroam camera, the results have been modified. Mark Wieler moves up to 5th., Paul Thompson stays at 6th. and Charles Hamer moves to 7th.  Andrea Hunter took a shot of the finish with her new I Pad. The pictures were really clear except that the slow shutter speed blurred the riders almost beyond recognition. For future events, the Contourroam will be used for finish verification.

MIVA BOXWOOD CRITERIUM 120508

MIVA BOXWOOD CRITERIUM, MAY 8TH. 2012 wind – a lot, barometric pressure – yes, sun – some.

Best turnout so far this season. Eleven at the start including nine seniors, one youth and one woman. The start was faster than usual and Brodie Hay and Glenda Harling were soon dropped but carried on at their own pace, joining in with the fast-moving bunch each time they were lapped. The first and second primes were both won by Ian Smith who also took first place from Iain Hay, Sean Lunny and Mike Sevcov. 24 laps in 43'56” average speed – 36.05kph

Thanks to Ed Henderson, Kristy Mighton, Iain Hay and Brodie Hay for help with registration, set-up and lap board (new).

VOLUNTEERS FOR COBBLESTONE CLASSIC

MIVA is organising this great event but  success depends to a great extent on having enough volunteers to help with course set-up, traffic direction, protocol, and pedestrian access to the inside of the circuit. The race is only six weeks away, on June 17th. but  the club is having difficulty finding enough available people to help with all these tasks. If you haven't been a part of an event like the Cobblestone Classic, please consider helping MIVA. All volunteers will begien any necessary training and on the day will  be fed and watered.

Contact the club at info@bikeracing.ca if you are able to be part of the race team.
