MIVA 20k TT 7/23/2015 Results & Recap

It was a perfect night for racing tonight, 23 degrees, no wind, and almost no cars on the road (except for the shirtless guy on the scooter). RESULTS HERE! OBB Series Standings HERE! 20k Course Records HERE !

MIVA welcomed its newest member (signed up at 3pm today) Joel Deschiffart to the time trials tonight.  Making the most of his offseason from running (really really fast), he's here to make the last couple TTs then a hill climb series assault.  Never having raced a TT IN HIS LIFE, he guessed 'about a 36 minute 20k'.  Then raced a 31:32, good for 4th overall!

COURSE RECORDS BROKEN: 1 Youth Female: Meghan Gillmore

PERSONAL BESTS: 12 Joel Lutz Simon Weber Matthys Redelinghuys Lee Zavarise Ian Drown Murray Walters Fred Rockwell Kiyomi Schulz Anita Gillmore Meghan Gillmore Tamara Zavarise Sandy Przada

Don Gillmore rode his seasons best 20k in 27:45 (43.2km/hr avg), followed by Joel Lutz' PB (30:47) and Patrick Burnham (31:09).  In the Female Category Janna Gillick rode a fast 31:43 just seconds off a PB, followed by Lorrie Baildham (33:47) on the injury comeback trail, then Kiyomi Schulz (34:46) with her PB!

In the youth categories, Meghan Gillmore SHATTERED the course record with a 36:26 (2 minutes 43 seconds knocked off tonight)!  Abigail Hare rode strong and held her season lead, fresh off last nights Hub City Tri Club race where she clinched the Youth Female Series Champion Trophy!  In the male group Ian Gillmore rode his second best time of the year, with Aiden Hare just behind also riding his second best time of the year just 6 seconds off a PB, and retained his lead atop the standings.

Special thanks to Paul Callow for volunteering as turn around marshall tonight.  All set to race, but with a bike locked to the rack and no key, he made the most of his drive out and helped MIVA out, thanks Paul!

The standings to date look like this: MALE Paul Auton 112 Patrick Burnham 95 Nick Kupiak 87

FEMALE Janna Gillick 113 Kiyomi Schulz 108 Lorrie Baildham 62

YOUTH MALE Aiden Hare 126 Ian Gillmore 100

YOUTH FEMALE Abigail Hare 130 Meghan Gillmore 116

Best of luck to MIVA members Paul Auton, Dave Patterson, and Nancy Patterson, who are over in Whistler racing Ironman Canada this Sunday!

Missing tonight was Dave Steen, who unfortunately broke his elbow a few days ago.  Dave's always been a very big supporter of MIVA and cycling in general, heal up quick!

We have ONE FINAL TIME TRIAL to go this year, a 15k next Thursday July 30th, pre reg here!  The following night we'll have a mid season series wrap up social at Oak Bay Bikes (Fri 7/31 @ 7pm). Click here and let us know if you're coming so we can stock the "refreshments" accordingly!

40k TT - July 16 Results and Recap

It was a bit of a windy night in the city, but still 22 racers showed up for the last 40k of the season. For the skimmers! Tonights Results 2015 TT Series Standings (note: volunteer points do not show in Webscorer, will be added at end of season manually)

Tonight we had not one, but TWO course records broken.  This time by BOTH of the Gillmore kids.  First Meghan Gillmore in the Youth Female category knocking her own CR down to 37:45 (from 39:09)!  Then to Ian Gillmore who OBLITERATED the youth male record from the previous 40:13 down to an astonishing 37:07.  Very impressive riding!

MIVA also welcomed a racer from as far away as SOOKE tonight, as Owen Stampflee raced on the MIVA course (elevation gain over the MIVA 40k is about +600m) for the first time.  Stampflee is an Ironman Canada veteran and frequents the popular Sidney Velo TT's.

In the Mens race Paul Auton took home top honours with a PB of 57:35, followed by Joel Lutz and Justin Mark (who were only 9 seconds apart).

In the Female race, Kiyomi Schulz took home top honours with a smoking 1:09:59 (!), cutting a couple minutes off her PB!  Rounding out the podium were Lisa Mcleod and Anita Gillmore.

With 2 races to go the overall TT series is shaping up to be tight! Kiyomi Schulz has moved into a TIE with Janna Gillick for the points lead at 101 a piece. Paul Auton has a 25 point lead over Nick Kupiak, 112 to 87, clinching the male TT trophy for 2015. Abigail Hare leads Meghan Gillmore 120 to 104. Aiden Hare leads Ian Gillmore 116 to 88.

In the BAR Award Race the Mens title is now a TIE.  To the hundredth of a second.  IT IS THAT CLOSE.  Paul Auton bested his 40k time by 5 seconds, resulting in his overall average PB speed to be 42.47km/hr, tied with Don Gillmore also at 42.47km/hr.

MIVA 45KM CRITERIUM 150714The race started with two neutralised laps, as is usual when there are youth riders. After the flag went down, the bunch stayed quite compact for the next ten laps, albeit at a very fast pace, with some abortive break attempts by JamesGrant (Luma), Dave Beggs (Cycle Therapy), Nick Kupiak (Broad St.Cycles), Sean De Pol (MIVA). And John Lam (MIVA.) Then Kupiak, Lam, Grant and Ray Wagner (CVCC) managed to get clear of the following bunch and quickly established a five second gap. Within a lap, Wagner drifted back to the chase group but Justin Mark (BC Bike Race) had seen the danger and quickly bridged. This trio meant business and set about gaining five seconds per lap on the chasers and by the midway point were forty seconds up. The main group stayed pretty intact, with only Mark Wieler losing contact, but there was no organised chase and by lap thirty, the break lapped the field. They were content to leave things that way until the bunch sprinted at two laps to go, with Brodie Hay (Dr. Walker) winning the sprint for fourth from Lam and De Pol. Janna Gillick took the maximum women's points in sixth pace, with Newbie, Angelina Landry (MIVA) placing eleventh overall and second woman.

Thanks to Brodie Hay and helpers for setting up the course, to our intrepid marshals (you pay the air fare Ross Knight and they will work for you too!) and to Hilary Grant for lap board and scoring.

Two more races in the series, with next week at Arbutus (watch for announcement on Facebook.
