OBB TT SERIES RACE #10 – 7.2.2015

Another great night for the time trial, although the winds picked up slowing the times down a bit.  A big thank you to the Nanaimo RCMP for being present up the road watching (and catching...) some speeders, as well as warning many others.  Thank you for helping to keep the roads safe for everyone! 2015 TT Series Standings

A total of 23 racers came out tonight.  Paul Auton took overall honours with a PB 27:50 (43.1 avg), followed by Don Gillmore and Nick Kupiak.  Joel Lutz had his cast duct taped to his aerobar to lay down a PB 31:29 as well. In the Female Category Janna Gillick narrowly missed a back to back course record, with Kiyomi Schulz and Kristy-Lee Mighton rounding out the podium.  Both Tamara Zavarise and Carole Phee set PBs tonight, with Aiden Hare and Meghan Gillmore taking top honours in their youth divisions.  A total of 7 seasons best times were set tonight, nicely done!  The TT welcomed back Normon Thibault again, records indicate his last sighting on the start line was August 11, 2011 right before his 7th Ironman, great to have him back out and fitting a TT into an active schedule. There are a few of Nanaimo's TT "Legends of Yore" that we'd love to see out again this season (Stefan...? Boyd....?).

The series standings remain unchanged with Janna Gillick, Paul Auton, Abigail Hare, and Aiden Hare all holding down top spot with 4 races to go.

The BAR (Best All Around Rider) award is one of the tightest races ever seen. Don Gillmore holds a slim lead over Paul Auton, 42.34 to 42.32!  Basically over 75kms, these two are only 3 SECONDS apart.  The final 4 races should produce some great racing. Screen Shot 2015-07-02 at 11.53.50 PM

Thank you to Lorrie Baildham who was turn around marshall, and to Reagan Lovig for acting as holder/start line motivator.

OBB TT Series Race #8 - 6.18.2015

The threat of rain kept a few riders away tonight, as did injuries and race tapering, but 22 still showed up to race with a bit of a nasty headwind on the way out...but no rain thankfully.  We welcomed 3 newcomers to the TT series, Kristy-Lee Mighton, David Thomas, and Peter Mogg.  Anita Gillmore and Paul Callow made their season debut as well. Even with the wind, we had yet another new COURSE RECORD, this time it was Meghan Gillmore breaking the Youth Female CR with a blistering 28:28 (her former best time was 29:10), a 42 second improvement!  The mens race was tight once again, with only 8.2 seconds separating Don Gillmore and Paul Auton.  Nick Kupiak rounded out the podium with (another) PB of 21:24.  Joel Lutz fresh off an Alcatraz/Half Ironman double header set a PB of 24:07.  Newcomer Peter Mogg put in an impressive debut on the course coming in with 21:57, good for 4th best time ever on the 15k course!  In the female race Janna Gillick stayed undefeated with a 24:21, and in the youth male Aiden Hare took the win with a 30:42 time.

1 Course Record Set Tonight: Youth Female: Meghan Gillmore 28:28 (29:11 was previous mark)

3 Lifetime PBs on this 15k Course set tonight Nick Kupiak 21:24 Joel Lutz 24:07 Meghan Gillmore 28:28

The season standings shuffled a bit tonight, with Janna taking over top spot on the Female side and Paul Auton taking over first in the Male side.  The winners in all 4 categories are awarded the custom designed MIVA Trophies at the end of the season, special thanks to Angellos Glaros of Glaros Studios for creating some of the nicest trophies anywhere, and for always being a huge supporter of MIVA.

The BAR (Best All-Around Rider) award is the old OBB WHEELERS trophy (the one you can drink from), and is awarded to the top female and top male rider.  How this is determined is your top time in all 3 distances (15k, 20k, 40k) is totalled and your overall average speed is calculated.  Fastest average speed wins.  In 2014 Don Gillmore won with an average of 43.25, and Janna Gillick with a 36.95km/hr average.

BAR Leaders as of 6.18

Special thanks to the Nanaimo RCMP for patrolling Nanaimo River Road tonight, and to the City of Nanaimo for loaning out some 'Event Ahead' signs.  Thank you to Peter McCaffery for acting as holder for the start line.  Thank you to volunteers Lee and Tamara Zavarise (and kids) for acting as turnaround marshalls and cheering on everyone with cowbells.  Note that volunteers receive 5 points in the standings (to be added at the end, as Webscorer is working on a way to add them manually).
