MIVA Women's 100 event information...

MIVA Women's 100 Who - Over 10,000 women around the world, including the women of MIVA! (See #womens100 hashtag on social media)

What - The Rapha Women’s 100 is a global challenge inviting female cyclists around the world to ride 100 km or more on the same day. It's not a race. On this day, MIVA will be hosting a female-only group ride in Nanaimo called the "MIVA Women's 100"

When - The ride will take place on Sunday, July 23, 2017. Start times will vary: 8:00AM (easy), 8:30AM (moderate) and 9AM (fast).

Where - Approximate route will be the MIVA Spring Challenge (North) route shown here: https://www.strava.com/routes/8431338 but a final route map will be available prior to the event.

Why - Riding bikes is fun. Plus the Rapha100 would provide a goal for the Monday night riders to work towards together. Having a local option means less travel time for those with busy schedules.

How - Riders would be expected to sign up in advance, but the only cost to MIVA members would be for the social afterwards. A waiver, similar to the Monday night rides, will be required.

The group would be split into 3, with each subgroup having an ambassador assigned. Ambassadors will be seasoned cyclists familiar with the route, safety considerations and will be prepared to ensure that the ride proceeds in a "no-drop" format.

Support, including snacks, water, washrooms could be provided at the mid-point. Options for a post-ride social are being investigated and details will follow.

For more information, please feel free to contact Janna Gillick or Kiyomi Schultz.

MIVA/Coal City Crit #6 May 23

Well so much for summer.  17 riders came out for what was hands down the windiest race we've ever had.  The pack held together for the first ten laps, then the bell rang for the first prime and everything fell apart with the wind splintering the pack.  Four riders managed to keep it together and lap most of the field at least once. Full Results Here

First Prime - Justin Mark

Second Prime - Justin Mark

Third Prime - James Sage

First Place Men - Liam Sallivan

First Place Women - Janna Gillick

Thanks to our Volunteers who in addition to dealing with Drivers also had to address the issue of signage blowing away tonight.

All Volunteers are entered for the Draw prize of a brand new set of Easton EC90 wheels.

Crit Standings

Standings as of May 16

Thank you to Janna for compiling these.

Find out where you're at and grab some sunscreen and gatorade.  Second could be up for grabs if Kevin doesn't make the drive down and third is up as well since Mike has chosen tonight as his night to work a corner.

May Long Weekend

What a weekend so far, sunny and warm, not even a hint of rain. A quick look at strava shows that many of you are taking advantage of this amazing weather and putting in some miles.   For those of you stuck at work or catching up on yardwork I hear your pain....

The Monday night development ride is still on tomorrow night, leaving from Nanaimo Ice Center at 6pm.  The number of groups will be determined by how many people show up.  As always it's a 'No Drop' ride.  So come out and get some practice riding with a group or just spin out your legs after finishing a long hard ride today.

Tuesday Night is Crit Night.  630 registration, 7pm racing.  It's the best interval work out in town.  Not interested in racing, come by to cheer and help out.  All volunteers will be entered into for the draw prizes at the AGM.

Wednesday night Rock City is running an intermediate pace group ride.

Thursday is a short and sweet 20km Time trial up on Nanaimo River Road.  Last weeks race had some fast times posted with Nigel Ellsay coming up from Victoria to take the win.
