Hot Cross Bunnies, Sunday Oct 29th. Volunteers!

MIVA is again proud to host Hot Cross Bunnies (HCB), one of six races in the Cross On The Rock (COTR) cyclecross series. MIVA has a long history with COTR going back over 15yrs.

With over 300 riders expected, it will be a big, busy, wild event, and a lot of fun to be a part of. There are race events for all age classes from toddlers on push bikes to grizzled cyclecross veterans.

It should be noted that hosting this event provides important renumeration to the club to help cover our annual expenses and modest prizes.

This year Hot Cross Bunnies is near Halloween, so those of us volunteering on race day might consider spooky attire. There is no expection that riders would wear anything that may compromise their safety, a pumpkin does not make a good bike helmet.

We will need volunteers on these three days:

Saturday Oct 21 : Brush clearing and raking. Maybe due to this year's drought or our aggressive brush clearing in the past, this year should require only a couple of hours of labour. You will be battling blackberries so dress appropriately and bring clippers, rakes and a powered brush saw if you have one. Start time TBA.

Saturday Oct 28 : Course Setup. Following the direction of the course designer(s): set up tables, barriers and help with taping out the course. Many hands make light work, so, more the merrier.

Sunday Oct 29 : RACE DAY! Many positions are required on Race Day: registration, timing, fixing course tape, direct vehicle traffic and other miscellaneous chores. Some of these position require morning and afternoon volunteers. It's nice to have extra volunteers to relieve people on the edge of hypothermia if it’s cold and wet.

A typical raceday format is as follows:
8:00am Parking chaos starts
9:15am Registration Opens
9:50am Registration Closes
10:00am Beginner Clinic
10:45am Launch Men (Including Youth U13 and U15)
10:46am Launch Women (Including Youth U13 and U15)
11:40am Bigger Kids Full lap or almost a full lap
