LA Z BOY BOXWOOD CRITERIUM 100928

JULY 28TH. LA Z BOY CRITERIUM

Since there were but 2 women, tonight’s race combined both categories. After the initial 5 neutral laps, racing proper began. Welcome additions to the start list were Erin Hibbitts, riding her first criterium, and Dave Kenny, who had already spent some time helping set out the course.

As the race progressed, everyone stayed together for the next 3 laps but then Erin started to drop back, so Dave Kenny stayed with her doing some informal coaching.  It took a further 8 laps before the duo were finally lapped but then they stayed with the group until Dave abandoned with dehydration problems. Erin stayed with the bunch however until the final sprint. Meanwhile, iain Hay, just back from a Scottish holiday had also been lapped by the main group and he too finally dnf’d.

In the first prime sprint ,Everti’s  Derek Brain just pipped Warren Muir, OBB by a few centimeters. In the second sprint, he won again, this time edging out Paul Thompson, OBB.

He was set to repeat in the final sprint but it wasn’t to be. Fronrunners Normon Thibault snuck away before the final turn to stay 5 seconds clear to take the win, with Derek winning the sprint for second from Tony Winter, Muir and Thompson.

Thanks to all riders for again making the cone pick up easier by stacking.
