Volunteers

Crit tonight and once again we're looking for volunteers.  We already have two signed up ready to man a corner but we need one more for the third corner and a fourth person to help with the lap board. Now we've mentioned that this year we're going to offer some pretty sweet prizes for volunteering and that your name gets entered everytime you come to help out.  But we've been a bit vague on what it is exactly that you're getting a chance to win.

Well now it's time to be specific.  The first prize that we've secured through Rock City Cycles is a super sweet set of Easton EC 90 wheels.  They are nice.  I could feel the sun shining down on me as Doug handed them to me yesterday, light, stiff, aero, tubeless ready.

All you have to do is come out and help us out for an hour or so.  Criteriums are where we need the most help but we can also use some help at the time trials and hill climbs and we also have some other big events in the works for you this summer(if summer every arrives)

So lets help everybody with their planning and sign up ahead of time to Volunteer Here

A couple of the common Q and A

Do I need to be a member to volunteer - Nope, we'll gladly accept help from anyone who offers

Can I bring my wife/husband/partner to volunteer - Yes, but if they win it's their wheelset, so you better be nice unless you want it sold off to finance the bathroom reno you've been putting off.

I don't race but I really want the wheels, can I volunteer more than once to stack the odds in my favor - Yes, absolutely

MIVA/Rock City Time Trial #4 15km

The roads were clear and dry for our fourth time trial of the season.  Normally the shorter races see higher attendance but the steady rain throughout the day and threat of more to come had some riders choosing to take the night off. Unfortunately our marshall missed the turn around point, but all the riders except 1 saw the paint and turned at the correct point.

Series Standings

We're four races in and it's looking to be a exciting season.  In the womens category the top three riders are separated by 5 points.  In the mens the top four are separated by only TWO points.  With James and Elijah tied for the lead.

MIVA/Coal City Crit #4 35laps

The weather finally cooperated. We had an excellent turn out this evening with 19 riders taking the start line.  Comox Valley was well represented with six riders carpooling down for the race and putting in a strong showing.

It was a 35 lap, hold on to your toe straps, fast paced race.  With no primes on the line to save up for it was a series of almost constant attacks with riders testing the waters and trying to make a break stick.  Halfway through the race it appeared as though Sean Lunny and Nick Kupiak were going to get away as they opened up a lead of over 15 seconds on the main bunch.  But with the wind picking up along the back stretch they were soon reeled back in to the main pack.

With the chances for a breakaway gone the pace appeared to remain steady as riders prepared to sprint for the finish with Gary MacGregor throwing his bike over the line for the win with Nick and James crossing the line a split second behind him.

Thanks as always to our volunteers without whom these races would not happen.  Lesley, Brad, Larry and Ira who have all been entered again for a sweet new set of wheels.

MIVA This Week...
MONDAY Development Ride - NIC 6pm - come one come all. Anticipating 3 or maybe 4 groups so there should be one for everyone. The slowest group will practice "pace lining" (changing out the front rider).
See you tomorrow!

TUESDAY Crit night - Racers we still need vollies or no race! Sign up!! Weather looks good, so let's get those numbers back up.

THURSDAY 15k TT - this distance should appeal to most people, so why not come and try it out. I raced last week after a long time off - I was reminded that it is challenging but fun to compete against yourself or others. See you Thursday!
