2014 Time Trial Season - Recap

The 2014 TT Season wrapped up last week with a final 15k race, with a full Gillmore sweep of the categories! http://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=27344

The overall points trophy will change hands this year, with Patrick Burnham's steady rise up the standings this season result in him taking the male overall points title, well done Patrick! The single speeder finished with 148 points, with Don Gillmore coming in 2nd at 144, and Iain Hay (who also sped up substantially this year) finishing with 107. Newcomer triathlete Orphee Bernard came in 4th putting in some very fast results, with Justin Mark rounding out the top 5 with 91 in only 9 races. 2014 Male Overall

In the female category Jennifer Gordon retained her title and trophy, topping out at 132 points she edged Janna Gillick (120 pts) and Lorrie Baildham (109 pts). 2014 Female Overall

In the youth categories, the Hare siblings retained their titles with both Aiden and Abigail having great seasons. Ian Gillmore had an outstanding season notching PB after PB and never losing a single race of the 13 he entered. Meghan Gillmore also raced in 11 races and managing 8 wins while increasingly speeding up. 2014 Youth Male Overall 2014 Youth Female Overall

In the Time Trial Champ series things were a lot tighter. The TT Champion is determined by a racers 5 best performances totaled up. Any ties are settled first by who had the most outright wins (12 points), and if a further tie break is necessary it is determined by head to head results.

In the male category Don Gillmore retained his trophy for the 4th consecutive season (could be more) topping out at 60 points, with Justin Mark (56) and Patrick Burnham (56) rounding out the podium.

The female title goes back to a familiar place with Janna Gillick regaining the trophy after a year away from the TT's in 2013. She came in this season and went 10/10 never losing. I'm sure she'll be sipping from the cup again at the MIVA round up party in November. Lorrie Baildham (60) and Anita Gillmore (54) rounded out the female podium.

The youth male TT champ changes hands this year to the very deserving Ian Gillmore. Both he and Aiden were tied with 60 points, but Ian managed to win 13/13 events to earn the title. The youth female trophy was a battle as well, with Meghan Gillmore and Abigail Hare going head to head with 60 points each. Meghan won 8 outright, and Abigail took 12 titles, earning her the title as Youth Female TT Champ for 2014. Male Female Youth Male Youth Female

--------------------------------------------------------- Special congratulations to those who came out and raced the most this season, with Abigail Hare racing an astounding 19 out of 20 time trials (only missing the final one due to going to Kelowna for the Axel Merckx camp). Her brother Aiden came out to 16 races, and Ian Gillmore came out to 13 races with his sister Meghan coming out for 11 races. The youth component's dedication is very impressive. Both Patrick and Mike Gill both came out to 16 TT's, with Jenn Gordon coming out to 16 as well. There were many of you who came out to over 10 TTs and formed the backbone of the MIVA TT's, while also hammering out some amazing times, thank you to Patrick, Don, Iain, Orphee, Jason, Matt, Mike, Reagan, Paul, Simon, Matthys, Kelvin, Glen, Janna, Jenn, Lorrie, Carole, and Sandy. The TT's have become a very social and supportive group and we hope to see this continue into next year.

--------------------------------------------------------- Congrats to all who came out, we had amazing numbers this season eclipsing 2013 by far. Thank you to the volunteers who came out to help time keep or be the turn marshall. Thank you to Peter for all the hard work coming out week after week for 20 weeks to set up the cones and signs, time keeping while getting bit by mosquitoes, and then take it all down again. Not only should the winners be proud of themselves, but everyone who kept coming out to do their best against their previous effort, that's what it's all about, pushing yourself and improving yourself. I encourage you to jot down your results and set some goals for the 2015 season.

MIVA 20k TIME TRIAL RESULTS 7.31.2014

Another near-perfect night for the last 20km of the season and it produced personal bests for a number of riders. Don Gilmore won again with a time only 10 seconds outside his course record and Patrick Burnham beat his previous best despite being delayed by a slower rider at the turn. Reagan Lovig had his best 20km time of the season by several seconds, and Matt Evans beat his short lived pb from last week by taking off another minute and a half to secure a top three finish. Lorrie Baildham took first place in the women's category with a further improvement on her way back to full fitness and Abigail Hare also posted a P.B. To add to her great ride at the Axel Merckx youth camp last weekend. Ian Gilmore won the male youth category, again in a personal best time for the distance. Thanks to Evelyn Hare for being our on course photographer.

Next week is the second last 15k TT of the season, so come out to get primed up for your seasons best.

Of the 25 starters, 10 were female. That's what the club likes to see at our weekly events. Top honours went to Don Gillmore, with Iain Hay finishing 2' 25" behind him and Dave Steen in third a further 2 minutes back. 4th. Overall and the winner of the women's category was Janna Gillick only 16" back from Dave. Lorrie Baildham was second woman, just over 2 minutes back from Janna. In the youth categories, Meghan. Gillmore beat Abigail Hare by a shade over 2' and Brother Ian beat Aiden Hare tonight.

MIVA 15k Time Trial Results 7.17.2014

It was a perfect night for a TT with just a breeze and not too hot like the past few weeks. A huge turnout once again with 27 cyclists out for the 15k TT. Just how good were the conditions? An unbelievable EIGHTEEN racers put down seasons best times tonight. That's a testament to not only good weather, but seeing the results from everyone's hard work.  The results can be seen HERE. In the Youth Female Category Meghan Gillmore edged out Abigail Hare, breaking the 30 minute barrier for the first time this season! The Youth Male contest has been a battle between two of MIVAs most dedicated members, Ian Gillmore and Aiden Hare. Ian narrowly beat Aiden by only 17 seconds riding to a 32:30.

The Female Category saw Lorrie Baildham pulling off her first sub 25 minute 15kTT of the season to take top points. Anita Gillmore knocked 1:36 off her previous best, as did Kaitlynn Gordon, while Jenn Gordon set her 2nd best time of the season.

In the Male Category Don Gillmore set a seasons best time of just 20:13, averaging 44.5km/hr! Patrick Burnham continued his assault on his PBs by dropping his 15k all time best down to 22:44. Orphee Bernard took 3rd breaking the 23 minute barrier with a 22:50 a few days after being on the podium at the Cowichan Challenge Triathlon. With so many seasons best times tonight there are too many to list, but special kudos to Jason Hare for knocking almost a minute off his time and getting down in to the 23's! Simon Weber also knocked 90 seconds off his best, with Lee Zavarise making a strong improvement in just his 2nd TT this year dropping a minute off his time.

Longtime TT timekeeper Peter McCaffery couldn't make tonights race, leaving big shoes to fill. Club members rallied to help get things set up, special thanks to John Hannon for registration and turnaround marshall duties, and to Colleen Wtorek for debuting as a timekeeper and keeping the cyclists OCD in check with accurate results, thank you!

Next week is a 20k TT, hope to see you all there again.

Time Trial Overall Results as of 7/11/2014

We are past the midway mark of the season with 13 TT's down and 7 to go.  It's been a great season out on Nanaimo River Road with great turnouts and a nice social atmosphere.  There have been a number of personal bests and course records broken already!

In the overall points standings there are a number of tight battles, the trophies are still up for grabs in a few categories.  Full results can be viewed here via webscorer.  Expand your name and see all of this seasons results.

In the Top 5 Results Series a few racers have maxed out with 60 points including Janna Gillick, Don Gillmore, Abigail Hare, Meghan Gillmore, Aiden Hare, and Ian Gillmore.

Results can be viewed here via webscorer as well.

Another project I've worked on is compiling a proper database of all former TT results dating back to 2008.  It's taking some time, but I've managed to find as many as possible.  To date, I have put all of the 2012 season into webscorer.  Disregard any points displayed for 2012 or earlier, as they are just to create a series so you can view your old times and see how you've improved over the years.  The end goal is to then have one easy to navigate page where you can click on your name and all of your results with MIVA will display... something like how Cross On The Rock does (example here).
