OBB WHEELERS 40KM TIME TRIAL 10/08/26

AUG.26TH.  OBB WHEELERS 40 KM  ITT, NANAIMO RIVER ROAD As a number of our regular riders are competing in the Ironman triathlon at the

weekend, tonight’s turnout was small.  Times were a little slower than usual as it

was windy at the start and got more blustery later. The temperature also dropped

several degrees.  Don Gillmore won handily with a time over three minutes

slower than his best this season, while Derek Brain increased his margin over 68

year old Dave Steen to over a minute. In the women’s event Cheryl Morch just

failed to catch her fellow triathlete Julie Langelo, beating her by 59 seconds.

Lone youth rider, 5 year old Ian Gillmore improved on his 5km time, posting 18’4”.

Full results here.

Thanks to Mike Woodward for holding and marshalling at the 20km mark and to

perennial helper Dave Kenny for looking after the 10/30km turn.

Next week is the Kilpatrick Road hill climb, starting at 6.30pm. Riders please park

at the top on Benson View Road or at the school on East Wellington. No cars at the

start.

LA Z BOY CRITERIUM 2010 08 25

THIS WEEK'S LA Z BOY CRITERIUM. Tonight, Don Gillmore showed why he is a world champion in his age group on the track and an outstanding time triallist. Just four laps into the criterium, Don simply rode away from the rest of the field, no-one able to stay with him. Within the next ten laps, he caught the buch, won a prime, and rode away again. Before the finish, he had lapped all but two of the other riders yet again. There was a complaint that Gillmore was on a time trial bike but he could have probably eclipsed the other competitors on a Supercycle!

Every race in the series has seen new competitors and tonight was no exception, with Organic Athlete Dave Shistkoff and Arizona import Lionel Space taking the start. Ironically, if all the riders from each of the series events were in one event there would be 26 starters instead of a less-than ten average. Unless there is a significant improvement in the last two events - September 8th. and 22nd. - we will not be running a criterium series next year.  Full results for tonight's event and series standings to date here.

BTW, start time for the last two events will be 6.30pm.

WEDNESDAY CRITERIUM

WEDNESDAY CRITERIUM. criterium will give all newcomers an opportunity to test themselves at bunched racing. The current participants have many good comments on the safety of the circuit and the standard of organisation. With only three more criteriums to go, this is your chance to ride in a real echelon and see how you can sprint. Women are free for the rest of the season.
