The first bike trainer clinic is tonight, Thursday, at Pleasant Valley Elementary School on Dunbar Road, Nanaimo. The entrance to the gymnasium is around the right side of the school. Be prepared to really suffer as we are using the "Sufferfest" video plus pumped up music. Remember to bring something to put under your trainer and bike - a piece of carpet or a yoga mat is good. Doors open at 7.30pm and the session starts at 7.45pm. For those who revel in more pain, there's an extra half hour after the video ends. Only $5 per night too!
This is a (sort of) cycling web site but occasionally we pass on information that is in the area of general interest. Many of the inhabitants of Vancouver Island are of British extraction but, for the delight? and edification of those who are not, and for all our other non-WASP readers, here is a brief history of the English language. (Thanks to ex UCI commissaire Keith Walker for sending this.)
In 1982, Gordon Singleton won the first ever world championship by a Canadian cyclist when he came first in the keirin. Later in the championships, he was in the final of the sprint against Koichi Nakano, who had held the title foe the previous four years. This video from the Fifth Estate, who were doing a feature on Gordon, shows what happened. Thanks to Dave Kenny for sending this in.
All the arrangements have been made, a venue found and a time schedule worked out and an extra half hour built in for those who REALLY like to suffer!
The MIVA indoor trainer evenings will be on Thursdays from 7.45pm to 9.15pm at Pleasant Valley School on Dunbar Road off Metral Drive, just south of the Real Canadian Superstore.
Please arrive fifteen minutes early to make sure you are set up at the start of each night's video. You should bring a towel, a water bottle, and something to protect the floor from sweat and oil. The sessions will last one and a half hours and you will have another fifteen minutes to pack your stuff. There is plenty of parking at the school. BTW, cost for each session is $5.
Session will start on Thursday December 1st. And continue weekly until the end of February. There will be no sessions on December 22nd or Dec. 29th.. So you can go and buy all that neat cycling stuff for your nearest and dearest and the liquid refreshment for New Year's Eve.
