RYDER MOVES UP TO 7TH. IN TDF

FINAL TDF TIME TRIAL - RYDER UP TO 7TH. ON G.C. Just one more day of getting up at some unearthly hour to watch the Tour! Great to watch the final battle between Contador and Schleck. When Andy had gained 6 seconds by the first time split, many of us were hoping against hope that he would be able to pull off a final win but the rising wind put paid to that. A high point of the morning was Ryder gaining enough time to move himself into 7th. overall; watch for him next year when he may be designated gc contender for Garmin.

Convention has it that the final day is for the sprinters on the Champs Elyssees, with the podium guys taking it easy and sipping champagne while Huschov, Pettachi and Cavendish duke it out for the green jersey but wouldn't it be a sight to see Garmin trying to initiate a breakaway move for Hesdejal or Bjarn Riis orchestrating a move to get time back for Schleck?  Ah well, Monday, I'll be able to sleep in for a bit. Go here for CBC report of today's stage.

WOMEN'S CRITERIUM NEXTWEDNESDAY

LA Z BOY  WOMEN'S CRITERIUM NEXT WEDNESDAY Come on out to the Boxwood criterium ladies and have a great time learning to be part of a SAFE pace line. Develop your cornering skills and even learn how to sprint and break away from the pack.  This opportunity is designed to help you bridge the gap from time trials and triathlon to bunched racing in a safe environment on a  circuit closed to traffic. There will be a short clinic before the event so register prior to 6.30pm. The first five laps of your event will be neutralised and you will be riding with the men at a sub-racing pace.Until further notice there will be no charge for women competitors at these local, fun, races. For photos of women riding a criterium go here.

For these introductory sessions, tri bars and aero extensions are allowed on the bike but we ask that you do not use them. As you are doubtless aware, time trial  and triathlon bikes are not as manoeverable as road racing bikes.

OBB WHEELERS MIDWEEK TIME TRIAL

SCHLECK UNSHIPS CHAIN

SHOULD CONTADOR HAVE WAITED? In today's 2nd Pyrenean stage of the TDF, Andy Schleck unshipped his chain on the final climb. Contador, who was with Menchov and Sanchez, looked back and then accelerated. Schleck lost 25-30 seconds before finally getting underway and lost a further 9 seconds in the descent to the finish. Was Contador's move unsportsmanlike? For Schleck's and Contador's take on the incident, go here.
