Crit Standings

Standings as of May 16

Thank you to Janna for compiling these.

Find out where you're at and grab some sunscreen and gatorade.  Second could be up for grabs if Kevin doesn't make the drive down and third is up as well since Mike has chosen tonight as his night to work a corner.

May Long Weekend

What a weekend so far, sunny and warm, not even a hint of rain. A quick look at strava shows that many of you are taking advantage of this amazing weather and putting in some miles.   For those of you stuck at work or catching up on yardwork I hear your pain....

The Monday night development ride is still on tomorrow night, leaving from Nanaimo Ice Center at 6pm.  The number of groups will be determined by how many people show up.  As always it's a 'No Drop' ride.  So come out and get some practice riding with a group or just spin out your legs after finishing a long hard ride today.

Tuesday Night is Crit Night.  630 registration, 7pm racing.  It's the best interval work out in town.  Not interested in racing, come by to cheer and help out.  All volunteers will be entered into for the draw prizes at the AGM.

Wednesday night Rock City is running an intermediate pace group ride.

Thursday is a short and sweet 20km Time trial up on Nanaimo River Road.  Last weeks race had some fast times posted with Nigel Ellsay coming up from Victoria to take the win.

Just feel like chilling out and relaxing in the sun check out Crit Corner on youtube.  There's some great videos on race tactics and recaps from some of the Lower Mainland races

Pace

Time trial tomorrow night is our second 40km TT of the season.  We've had a couple of weeks to recover and train from the first one so it's a great opportunity see how you've come along and improved.  The trick with the longer time trials is to pace yourself correctly.  It's easy to go out hard and burn up so you've got nothing left and have to crawl home on the second lap.  You also don't want to take it too easy on the start and cross the line feeling fresh and ready to do it all again. At this moment the only two people signed up are the current Series Leaders

If you're curious to see who knows how to pace themselves check out the results from the last 40km TT and see who had the closest splits.

Pre register here.  You're projected finish time will be used to build the start list tomorrow night

MIVA/Coal City Crit #5

Well the weather certainly turned around for us tonight.  After Mondays taste of winter I wasn't sure we were going to have a race when I got up this morning.  However it turned out to be the best night so far. Slightly smaller field than last week with more locals coming out and less making the drive down from Comox we had 16 riders take the start line.

It was a 35 lap race with two Primes up for grabs mid race.  On the sixth lap we rang the bell and Janna jumped to take the sprint and grab a box of chocolate chip clif bars.   The second Prime was closely fought with Kevin and Elijah trying to come around Chris Cameron who just barely held them off to the line.

In the final sprint it was Kevin park with a well timed effort who crossed the line just ahead of James Sage.

Series standings before the start of this race.  Thank you to Janna for compiling the standings.

As always thanks to our volunteers who came out to the man the corners and the lap board.  Without them these races wouldn't happen.  All volunteers are entered in for a chance at one of three sweet draw prizes the first of which is a set of Easton EC90 wheels.  The more times you volunteer the more times you're entered :D
