Winding down(sorta)

Last week was a busy one. First we had the hugely successful second running of the Midsummers Cross Race at Diver Lake Park.  An amazing event.  Despite the heat and smoke we had a great turn out, lots of volunteers to make set up a breeze leaving plenty of time for racers to pre-ride the course.  Also a huge turn out of racers with 113 taking the line and kicking up dust.  That number includes the Zoom Zooms and the Half lappers that made sure Norm warmed up for his race

He had to to drop that Megaphone because they were on his wheel.

We also had Rhonda and the girls from Superstore out serving up cold snacks.  The lack of a hot barbecue didn't seem to bother anyone.  The Icecream sandwich and Orange slice hand ups were definitely a welcome treat to parched and dusty racers.

We followed that up with our Arrowsmith Bikes Hill climb.  I'm not gonna lie, after Wednesday night I considered cancelling the hill climb because I thought who wants to race again the next night.  Well I was wrong.  We had a great turn out with 14 riders tackling the Jameson Road climb.

Then to finish off the weekend was the Comox Valley Cycling Clubs Annual Mount Washington Hill Climb.  MIVA put in a strong showing with over 25% of the field.  The Weather was perfect for the climb today.  Overcast and cool with just a sprinkling of rain to help cool you off half way up.  The complete results shamelessly stolen from their Facebook Group page at the bottom of this post

With that it's time to start winding down our season just a bit.  By that I mean we only have Two events per week until the end of August.

Tomorrow night we will once again be meeting at the Nanaimo Ice Center for our Monday night development ride.

This Thursday will continue our Arrowsmith Bikes Hill Climb Series with the Witchcraft lake Climb.  Riders will once again be meeting up at the bottom of Kilpatrick Road next to the mailboxes and heading straight up.

Please don't ride on Beban or Bowen Cyclocross tracks

We had two great cross racers at these two locations and we hope to have many more to come. In order to do so we need to repair the damage sustained by these races. Some of us have been out there two times repairing the damage but more is still required. Please help us out by NOT riding on these tracks. Also we will need some help on further repairs so if you can help that would be great. We are just waiting for a little bit drier weather. Please be ready to answer the call. Thanks for your cooperation and help.

MIVA's HOT CROSS BUNNIES RACE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!!

What a great cyclocross race we hosted on Saturday, thanks to all involved and the weather remaining good. We had over 300 racers which is one of the best turnouts for Beban Park. A muddy and tough course was appreciated by most, loved by many and probably loathed by some too. HUGE THANKS TO: NORM THIBAULT - for his amazing ability to organize behind the scene, set up on the day of and just keep everything so dialed. Thanks Norm!!

RON HEWITSON - MIVA's Race Director once again calmly did all the necessary prep beforehand then organized all of us to set up, marshall and take down the course very efficiently Thanks again Ron, please keep it rolling.

RACERS - Thanks for making the effort to get here and for making this race a super fun, social and successful event. We look forward to seeing you back here next year. MIVA MEMBERS and ALL VOLUNTEERS - Without the generous time given by many this race could not go off as well as it did. Many helped set up, marshal and did take down. To all of you who stepped up,(you know who you are) thank you!

PLEASE VOLUNTEER WHEN YOU CAN - As we look ahead to next year please be ready to volunteer when you can. I believe we need more people to step up as many of you are starting to get burnt out. If you are not racing in a series why not vollie now and then? We will enjoy a profit from this race which helps fund most of our needs for putting on all of our other events throughout the year. More info. about the upcoming season will be rolled out soon in my next MIVA mail out.
